Financial Forecast

Financial Forecast answers "if the last year continues as it has, where do I end up?" It projects the next 12 months of income, expenses and investment contributions from the last 12 months of your own statement activity.

What it shows

Four projected totals for the next 12 months:

FigureMeaning
Projected income (12 mo)Sum of the 12 projected monthly income figures
Projected expenses (12 mo)Sum of the 12 projected monthly expense figures
Projected net savings (12 mo)Projected income minus projected expenses
Projected investments (12 mo)Sum of the 12 projected monthly investment contributions

Then three panels:

PanelWhat it shows
Next 12 monthsLine chart of projected income, expenses and investment contributions, month by month
History & forecastLine chart of income and expenses across the last 12 actual months continuing into the next 12 projected months, so the projection reads as a continuation of the trend
Monthly forecastTable of the 12 projected months with income, expenses, investments and net

Both charts can be exported; the forecast chart exports with its data table alongside it.

How to use it

  1. Open Financial Forecast. It loads automatically for the last 12 months up to today, including the current month.
  2. Read the four projected totals for the headline picture.
  3. Use the History & forecast chart to sanity-check the projection against what actually happened — if the recent months look unrepresentative, treat the projection with caution.
  4. Use the monthly table for the month-level figures, and export the chart if you need to share it.

Notes and limits

  • These are projections, not predictions. They are a continuation of your recent pattern and nothing more. They assume your income, spending and contributions carry on behaving as they have. They do not know about a job change, a large planned purchase, a rate change or anything else you have not yet spent money on.
  • The window is fixed: the last 12 months up to today, including the current month. There is no period selector on this screen.
  • Months in that window with no data count as zero rather than being skipped, so gaps in your uploaded statements drag the projection down. Upload a full year before relying on it.
  • The current month is included in the history even though it is usually incomplete, which can make the most recent actual month look low.
  • Projected figures are never negative; a projection that would fall below zero is shown as zero.
  • If there is not enough history to project from, the page says so instead of showing a chart.
