Money flow
Money flow answers "how did cash move through the period?" — in and out by month, day by day, and from each income source through to what was left at the end. Each view is a chart plus the exact figures behind it.
What it shows
The screen is a strip of tabs, one visualisation each.
| Tab | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Income vs expense | Income above the axis, expense below, month by month, with the net line |
| Cumulative net (savings curve) | The running sum of monthly net cash flow across the period |
| Daily spend heatmap | A calendar of daily spending; darker cells are heavier days |
| Running balance | The cumulative balance trajectory across the period as money moves in and out |
| Where the money flows | A Sankey: income sources flow into income, income into spending categories, and anything left over into savings |
| Income funnel | Income, then spending, then what is actually kept |
| Spending waterfall | Income drawn down category by category — the six largest categories, then everything else — to the net figure |
| Recurring-payment timeline | A grid of recurring monthly payments with their average amount and a dot for each month the payment was active |
Features
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Data table under every chart | Each visualisation shows the figures behind it, not just the picture |
| Chart export | Hover a chart to download PNG or PDF; the PDF includes the data table |
| Shared period filter | The date control at the top of Analytics drives every tab here |
| Category colours | The Sankey draws each spending category in that category's own colour |
How to use it
- Set the period at the top of the page.
- Start with Income vs expense to see which months ran a deficit.
- Use Cumulative net to see whether the period ended ahead or behind overall.
- Open Where the money flows for a single picture of source, spend and surplus.
- Use Spending waterfall when you need the same story as a list of numbers you can hand to someone else.
- Check the Recurring-payment timeline for commitments that started, stopped or skipped a month.
Notes and limits
- The period filter. Presets are: last year up to your latest statement (the default), last year to today, last six months, last three months, this month, and a custom from/to pair. The window is inclusive and matched on posted date, and it is shared across the Analytics tabs. Until the period resolves the screen shows nothing rather than briefly showing every year of data.
- Running balance starts from zero at the start of the period. It is the cumulative net movement within the window, not your bank's account balance, so it will not match a statement's closing balance.
- The Sankey and funnel need both income and spending in the period. With only one of the two, the tab shows an empty state.
- Savings in the Sankey, and the net stage of the funnel, are what is left over — income minus spending in the period. A negative result is shown as zero rather than a negative stage.
- The waterfall names the six largest spending categories and folds the rest into "Other".
- The recurring timeline lists monthly outgoing payments only. A payment qualifies when the same merchant appears at least three times, in at least three different months, at a roughly monthly interval. The grid shows the top 15 such payments by average amount.
- The heatmap covers spending only — money leaving the account.
- Amounts are totalled as recorded and are not converted between currencies.
Every plan includes this screen; plans differ only by the monthly page allowance — see Plans & limits.
